Board of Directors Application
The Alumni Association looks for people who are willing to devote their time, energy and talent
to directing the affairs of the organization at WLU.
Job Description:
The Wilfrid Laurier University Alumni Association (WLUAA) plays a vital role within the university community. The association is governed by a Board of Directors consisting of 25 elected directors who report to Committee Chairs. The directors hold office for a period of two years (limited to 3 consecutive two year terms of office) and take office on September 1, 2010. The Board of Directors is comprised of volunteers from various years of graduation and faculties that demographically represent WLU's 74,000 alumni.
Qualifications:
- Well developed leadership skills.
- Effective team player and time manager.
- Commitment to and passion for the mission, core values, and strategic plan of WLUAA.
- Awareness of political, social, or economic trends that may affect WLUAA’s mission or the ability to carry it out.
Duties:
- Attend the annual Board retreat in September.
- Attend all meetings (6) in person or by phone if there are extenuating circumstances that prevent in person participation.
- Be prepared for all meetings by reviewing the past minutes, committee reports, and any other information provided in advance, on WLUAA website.
- Be an active participant/ worker on the committee to which one is assigned.
- Help to develop the committee’s strategy, goals, and objectives for the year, and carry them out while adhering to budgets and deadlines.
- Be engaged in the board processes, actively participate in discussions, and respect the chair, the other directors, and the decisions of WLUAA.
- Represent the board by attending WLUAA events in the wider community when possible.
Expectations:
- Honour the Oath of Confidentiality agreement at all times.
- Declare a conflict of interest as applicable.
- Exhibit loyalty to the Board and its decisions, practicing the principles of democratic decision making at all times.
- Share the work load/ responsibilities with other Directors.
- Set a leadership example by contributing financially to WLU at a level that is personally meaningful.
