Last spring, half way through earning her Laurier degree, Catherine, class of 2018, was notified by OSAP that her student loan payment would be delayed by at least eight weeks. The sole-support, single mother was panicked.

“I’m almost a straight-A student, but I wasn’t going to be able to pay rent. Sure, I could move into a friend’s house, but this is my four-year-old daughter’s home we’re talking about.”

Looking for solutions, she walked into the office of the dean of students and was told there was help available, thanks to Laurier donors who support the Student Emergency Fund. “I could breathe again,” Catherine said.

A critical element to ensuring student success includes having the necessary resources and support available. Laurier’s Student Emergency Bursary Fund provides one-time support to students who are experiencing an unforeseen financial crisis. The Student Emergency Bursary Fund is made possible thanks to remarkable donors like you.

Increasingly relied upon by students, this emergency funding has helped hundreds of Golden Hawks continue their education. Still, more than half of the students seeking support are turned away because there are not enough funds available.
