I would like to support the Patricia O'Reilly Memorial Scholarship.

Patricia O’Reilly passed away on February 5, 2017 after a hard-fought battle with pancreatic cancer. Her express wish was to be remembered for the work she did on issues she cared deeply about, and not to be defined by the disease that clouded her last months.

She was a barrister and solicitor who practiced in the area of poverty law for eight years, working on behalf of injured workers. She was also an Assistant Professor in the Law and Society, as well as the Criminology departments at Wilfrid Laurier University, Brantford, alongside her husband Dr. Thomas Fleming, Professor of Criminology.

A passionate supporter of her students, it is fitting that future students who share Patricia’s interests should continue to be encouraged and inspired in her memory. As such, her husband and children, with the support of colleagues at Wilfrid Laurier University, have collected donations for a student award in her memory.

The Patricia O’Reilly Memorial Award will annually support a senior student who demonstrates academic success, community involvement and is interested in pursuing issues of social justice.

Soon after Patricia’s passing, many joined to pay tribute to her by raising funds through a GoFundMe campaign to create a scholarship at Laurier. Now, the family has created this award and continues to raise funds so this scholarship can be endowed and given out in perpetuity, ensuring Patricia’s long-lasting legacy at Laurier.
